Percutaneous portal venography.
نویسنده
چکیده
Portal venography by percutaneous injection of the spleen was first performed in dogs (Abeatici and Campi, 195I) and the method was later successfully applied in man (Leger, 1951; Boulvin et al., 195I; Campi and Abeatici, I952). In the last few years the method has been routinely used at a number of centres in the British Isles. Atkinson, Barnett, Sherlock and Steiner (I955) have described about 40 cases investigated at the Hammersmith Hospital. The percutaneous trans-splenic technique is the method most widely used, but some workers prefer portal venography to be performed at laparotomy by injection of a mesenteric vein (Green and du Boulay, 1954). The writer's personal experience is limited to the transsplenic method.

Stroke after percutaneous transhepatic variceal obliteration of esophageal varix in Caroli syndrome
Here we present the case of an 11-year-old female patient diagnosed with Caroli syndrome, who had refractory esophageal varices. The patient had a history of recurrent bleeding from esophageal varices, which was treated with endoscopic variceal ligation thrice over a period of 2 years. However, the bleeding was not controlled. When the patient finally visited the Emergency Department, the hemog...
متن کاملEffect of Pitressin
POSTERIOR PITUITARY EXTRACT is known to lower the portal venous pressure in animalsl-3 and in man a similar effect has been demonstrated during the control of bleeding from esophageal varices with intravenous pitressin.44 It has been suggested that pitressin lowers portal pressure by increasing splanchnic resistance.7 The present communication concerns the effects of intravenous pitressin on sp...
متن کاملCO(2) wedged hepatic venography in the evaluation of portal hypertension.
BACKGROUND/AIMS/METHODS During hepatic vein catheterisation, in addition to measurement of hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG), iodine wedged retrograde portography can be easily obtained. However, it rarely allows correct visualisation of the portal vein. Recently, CO(2) has been suggested to allow better angiographic demonstration of the portal vein than iodine. In this study we investiga...
متن کاملEndoscopic ultrasonography-guided placement of a transhepatic portal vein stent in a live porcine model
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Percutaneous portal vein (PV) stent placement is used to manage PV occlusion or stenosis caused by malignancy. The use of endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) has expanded to include vascular interventions. The aim of this study was to examine the technical feasibility and safety of EUS-guided transhepatic PV stent placement in a live porcine model. MATERIALS AND METHODS...
متن کاملRelevance of antecedent venography in percutaneous vertebroplasty for the treatment of osteoporotic compression fractures.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Controversy exists regarding the utility of antecedent venography in percutaneous vertebroplasty. Our purpose was to determine whether antecedent venography improves clinical outcomes and/or decreases extravertebral cement extravasation in these procedures. METHODS We retrospective reviewed outcomes of consecutive percutaneous vertebroplasty procedures performed at our ...
